Folding

Author : rafaelaraujofernandes, Posted on: 23.01.2010

BY Tommy Angelo

I played poker for ten years before discovering the fold in 1984. Was when I met Bobby. He had a big belly, a big beard and a big laugh. Bobby was like Santa Claus without the gifts. He kept throwing his hand out, and did not seem to care. And he made money, and the other players seemed not to care.

Then I started to fold more often to see what would happen. I fold before the flop with a couple of times T9. I folder Q8 suited. Folder an ace when someone has increased. It was so new, so exciting. I was excited about it, as an explorer. I kept adding more hands to fold the list, trying to keep my rates as the fold of Bobby. But do not stop there. Oh no. Quickly I found myself stuck the whole thing, like dropping a good hand river.

Soon after I went to Vegas. After a week in the wilderness, I felt like Charles Darwin must have felt in the Galapagos Islands, having traveled to an isolated land, where he found a strange new species ecosystem inhabited by bizarre. What I discovered in the islands Las Vegas was on the top of the ecosystem of poker, the top of the food chain, sat the \”foldadores.\”

I must stop here and explain exactly what kind of fold what I mean. I\’m talking about the fold is eito often conspicuously, defiantly, and without thinking twice.

Occasionally in the games of Vegas, a non-foldador say something to a foldador, sometimes friendly, sometimes not, about playing so tight. I could not understand how foldadores were so comfortable with all the comments, fold, and they just sit behind their big smiles and long stacks, and fold again.

I was like, \”ok, I see now how this works.\” It\’s like a club. The club foldadores. Well, regardless of what it was, I wanted to go.

After tasting the first time a large fold, I felt that if I could get really good at it, I could quit my job. So I did the fold my Holy Grail, my mission, my mountain to climb. I could see the mountain. I could see the path. I looked at the floor in front of me, and took a step.

In 1990 I was foldada enough to pay my food and my rent. This frees up enough time for much folding. Soon I was so good at folding that I could afford a bit of \”gambling\”, then a little more and a little more. My fine line solvency was always the fold. Whenever I was low on money, all you had to do was stop betting and eat, and re-fold.

Eventually, I have overcome the demon of cigarettes, the gamble (gambling), the tilt and several others that I found on the road. My path became a gentle slope that led me to a high sunny where I stopped, sat and looked around in wonder, because I could see the top of the mountain behind and above me, and I could see the bottom, waiting for me, if I neglect my fold.

When I play now, one of the things I do not do during the beginning of the game is to bet a lot. I like to start soon with the fold. My ideal session starts with a sip of coffee, then someone turns and I\’ll fold the big blind, then take another sip of coffee before you fold my small blind, then I take a sip of coffee the size of the temperature it allow me straighten in his chair, prepare myself to play the button, breathe well, and most likely fold.

Which brings me to the hand that made me write about my fetish fold.

The game was limit hold\’em $ 80 / $ 160. It was my first hand at the meeting. I was in the big blind with AT offsuit, not hearts. One player limped, the small blind folded and I checked. We were heads-up on the flop, I was the first to speak.

The flop came A A 9, with two hearts.

I check, check it.

The turn was 8 of hearts.

Of course, nobody at the table had no idea that I had a hand like that. After all, everything that happened was limp, check – check, check – check, check – check, bet, fold. If any of my opponents come to a conclusion about what they saw, would not that I left a good hand. Would be that I chose not to bluff, three times with a bad hand. And that\’s why I give fold the way I do, with a quiet mind and body quiet, so nobody knows what I had.

Sometimes fold makes me feel like a controller. Like when I open raise from the cutoff with a little thing, the pay button and the blinds fold, go to heads up with me talking first mistake and I flop, I check, he bets and I fold. Or I raise preflop and reraise someone is after me, everyone else folds, I paid, the flop comes, I check, he bets and I fold. With guys like that, I make money twice. Since the end immediately with my worst. Twice in making correct, in their world, for bluffing, bluffing when I check and the foldadores, fold when I bet. And then, suddenly, I can not lose. I love to fold.
